Workshop meeting, Thursday, September 9

We will have a workshop meeting Thursday, September 9, at 7:30 pm.

The main feature of this meeting will be a discussion of what the club should do for the year that is just starting.  Please bring your ideas of what photo shoots you would like to see the club do, as well as what you would like to see us do during our workshop meetings.  This is your club -- what do you want out of your club?

We will also have an opportunity for members to bring prints for discussion.  Please bring up to 5 prints that come from a club event or are at least related to the club's theme of portraiture.

Prospective and past members: please come meet us, see the studio, and learn more about what we do.

Beach Shoot, Sunday, September 12

8171-200.jpg We are planning a beach photo shoot at Salisbury State Beach on Sunday afternoon, September 12.  The site offers various settings including (of course!) sand and water, but also dunes, walkways, etc.  We'll take advantage of the nice late afternoon sunlight by starting at 4:00 pm.  Closing time at the beach's day-use parking lot is 8:00 pm.

Models will model swimsuits as well as other beach-type attire and accessories.  This will be a TFCD shoot, so all photographers who participate will need to prepare CDs for the models, just as we do at our regular monthly shoots in the studio. Photographers will need to be current club members (i.e., paid your dues) to take pictures in this photo shoot.

This is a great opportunity to get experience using fill flash, as well as using reflectors and other techniques to control the lighting in an outdoor location shoot while getting some great beach pictures to add to your portfolio.

Further information about the site, as well as driving directions, can be found here:

Models: if you would like to model at this event, please see the casting call at

What We Do

We are an active photography club that believes in learning by doing.  The CoverShot Photography Studio, where we meet, is a truly special resource that we use to get lots of first-hand experience actually taking pictures in a studio setting.  See the next news item for more information about our mission.

Our regular meetings take place on the second and fourth Thursday evenings of every month.  The meeting on the fourth Thursday is a photo shoot with models in the CoverShot studio.  The meeting on the second Thursday is a workshop where club members can learn and compare notes.  Each workshop meeting includes a program for learning about photography or photographic technology, or preparing for an upcoming shoot.  Members are also encouraged to bring their pictures or questions, for comments and suggestions by other members.  Members also have the opportunity to use the studio facilities during a workshop meeting for a $20 studio fee.

In addition to these regular activities, periodically the club organizes special photography outings or events that members can participate in for an extra fee.

RiversEdge Photographic Society
The RiversEdge Photographic Society is a photography club located in New England, within the state of Massachusetts, specializing in but not exclusively limited to, studio photography. We meet twice monthly at the CoverShot Photography Studio, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. The club provides a creative community for digital and film photographers, with a special focus and support for photographers interested in expanding the art and science of people photography—portrait, glamour and fashion photography, studio lighting and related subjects. One thing that has been noticed is that at many clubs, the focus is on nature photography. It seemed that the people who did “people photography” were often overlooked in competition and recognition. As people found out about the CoverShot Photography Studio, they asked about the idea of a club. Needless to say, the idea was greeted with many positive words of encouragement. Our mission is to “create a community of photographers who continuously learn, improve their skills, and explore the art of photographing people in a supportive environment.” For more information or to join please contact: RiversEdge
